Young Surfers Take the Lead in Protecting Our Ocean

At JBay Surf Alliance, our mission goes beyond riding waves. we’re building a generation of ocean guardians. Earlier this month, our young surfers took action, proving that they’re not only passionate about surfing but also deeply committed to protecting the coastline they call home.

Sixteen-year-old surf coach Denavian led the charge, organising a beach clean-up at Kitchen Windows Beach. With bags in hand our groms scoured the sand, collecting plastic, fishing lines, and other waste that threatens marine life.

we are particularly stoked about this demonstration of learning, leadership, and transformation. Through hands-on experience, our young surfers are developing a deep respect for their environment and taking responsibility for keeping it clean. By leading these initiatives, they’re also showing younger groms the power of taking action.

More Than Just a Clean-Up

At JBSA, we believe that environmental education and community engagement go hand in hand. In addition to clean-ups, we collaborate with local authorities and retailers to reduce plastic waste and raise awareness about sustainable alternatives. We’re also working towards installing recycling bins at key surf spots and creating educational signs about local marine life, helping our communities become active stewards of the ocean.

Seeing our young surfers take the lead in protecting their beaches is a testament to the power of education and action. By instilling a love for the ocean and a sense of responsibility for its well-being, we’re not just shaping great surfers, we’re shaping future leaders.

We’re incredibly proud of Denavian and all our young surfers who participated in the clean-up. Their efforts remind us that small actions create big change.
